Compatibility is not one trait. Look at energy level, temperament, age, size, confidence and how each dog usually responds to other dogs. Breed can provide context, but it should not be the only factor.
Compare play styles
Ask whether each dog prefers running, wrestling, walking together or calmer social time. Dogs with very different play styles may still get along, but owners should know what each dog is comfortable with before meeting.
Talk about boundaries and triggers
Owners should discuss situations that make either dog uncomfortable, including crowded environments, intense play or unfamiliar dogs approaching too quickly.
Treat the first meeting as information
A profile cannot guarantee compatibility. Use a first meeting to observe how both dogs respond, and be ready to create space or end the interaction if either dog appears uncomfortable.
